We are currently recruiting for an experienced Chief Garage Technician to join one of our Formula 1 clients.

To meet the challenges of competing in the highest class of international motor racing, you’ll help us innovate new ways of getting our team to the top.

This position reports to the Trackside Operations Manager or their designee; is located in Banbury, UK. Responsible for the leadership of the group of garage technicians at all tests and races with responsibility for the build and presentation of the garage and associated equipment as well as the transportation of race team freight including cars and pit equipment.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage department personnel from recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement through to separation.
  • Mentor, train and guide personnel as required. Develop staff using effective performance reviews and development plans.
  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Responsible for establishing standard operating procedures and budgets to maintain a practical yet functional department.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.  

Education and Work Experience:  

Previous experience of working in a professional motorsport environment, with proven experience in managing, training and leading a team. Ability to understand the workload and allocate tasks appropriately throughout the team in accordance with time constraints. 3 Years previous experience as a Chief Garage Technician or similar position would be advantageous.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to diagnose equipment faults and deliver solutions in a pressurised environment under tight time constraints.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to overcome technical and operational issues
  • The ability to consistently work to the highest standards with an exceptional attitude towards attention to detail.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others, self-motivated with the ability to motivate a team.
  •  Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
  • Work well within a team environment with personnel at all levels.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.

Equipment and Applications: 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products (Outlook, Excel, Word & Visio) and a basic understanding of formula one vehicle systems and technology.
  • Knowledge of formula one garage equipment and systems.
  • Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role will require extensive domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
